| Big Sand is an excellent lake for fishing.
There are also Northerns, Crappies and Largemouth
Bass. But, the lake's reputation is for Bluegills. Nice Bluegills!
(The Big
Sand Lake referred to in the 2005 fishing regulations that imposes a slot
limit on Walleyes IS NOT the Big Sand Lake we are on). |
| AREA ATTRACTIONS |
|
We are fortunate to be a
short drive to a variety of attractions. For example,
there are 12 golf courses within a 45-minute drive of Cedar
Point.
30 minutes to the northeast of Remer is Grand
Rapids and the Iron Range. You can find the Judy
Garland Museum, the Children's Discover Museum, The Forest
History Center and the Reif Center in Grand Rapids. Grand
Rapids also has a multi-theater Cineplex, four golf courses,
a pitch and putt and the annual presentation of Showboat. 15 minutes beyond Grand Rapids, in
Calumet, is the Hill Annex Mine. It used to be an open pit iron
ore mine but it's now a state park with daily tours. Less than two hours to the east of Remer is Duluth. Take an easy day trip and visit the Glensheen Mansion, or take a ride on the harbor cruise. Watch the Aerial Lift Bridge rise to allow a "laker" boat to pass underneath, and tour the Washington Irving, a retired ore boat. Twenty minutes To the west is
Longville and their world famous turtle races. Forty-five minutes to the south is
Crosby and their assortment of antique shops and Brainerd with Paul
Bunyan Land is only fifteen minutes farther. Thirty-five minutes west is Walker
and the Cass County Historical Museum, the Minnesota Freshwater
Fishing Hall of Fame and Moon dance Ranch witch features the Moon
Dance Jam that is sponsored by KQRS. Also Northern Lights C About forty-five minutes past
Walker is Itasca State Park with the headwaters of the Mighty
Mississippi River. Of course, all of these communities also have a rich assortment of shopping and dining experiences. |
